Growing hair on a scar?

My horse has an old scar on the bulb just above his hoof. The vet had to remove a small piece of flesh for it too heal. Now he has a ugly scar with no hair . Now my question is...anyone know of something that will re-grow hair on that spot?

You can't regrow hair, its scar tissue.

For hair to grow you have to have hair bulbs in the skin. Scar tissue doesn't.

Theres nothing you can do. For showing purposes, you can get shoe polish that match the color of your horses coat and use that on the skin for show purposes only.

Horse fix themselves, and they are good at it! The hairless area will do one of two things! Stay bare and be a scar for ever... or hair will grow back, it may stay that wak till the next coat change or maybe not, it may come in white though...

Mule is right, if it is an old scar, hair will not grow back, but....if it was a new wound and not a very deep one, then you may be able to apply dressing to promote hair growth, but it sounds like you may have to deal with the patch. Try shapley's touch-up spray or ultra coat products, they are available from schneiders www.sstack.com to cover the spot at shows.

Try M-T-G, it grows hair back, and makes the main/tail grow, plus a lot of other things.

Hair grows from a hair follicle, scars do NOT have hair follicles...I don't give a gosh darn what you put on it, it cannot grow hair if there is no hair follicle...now, it's not that big of a deal...you can match just about any equine hair color with the human colored hair spray in about any drugstore...spray it on the scar, soft brush the other hair around it and go on with your showing. Yes, there are good products that sort of "wake up a hair follicle, nourish it and tell it to grow", but...I repeat myself, there has to be a hair follicle present to hear that message.
